#237; the first roadtrip

Happy Thanksgiving, inhabitants of Limbo! I hope the weather around here treated you well for the holiday, and all your turkey-cravings, family-traditions, and Black Friday-binges were fulfilled!

I spent most of my time off on the road, braving the east coast storms to drive from Boston to my parents’ place in Myrtle Beach. I hadn’t seen my parents in 8 months, which had to have been some sort of family record. The drive was long but I went in hopeful. The first big road trip as a couple, 8 months into our re-kindled relationship, was a nerve-wracking thing. Would we be able to put up with each other’s taste in music? Would he mind when I sang along while driving? Who would drive? Who would rent the car or pay for the gas each time we stopped? Where would we stop, how often? Would we stay glued to our phones and email like we do when we’re in the city? How would the first holiday with my family go?

So I was hopeful, and nervous, and excited, and scared. All before I even picked up the rental car.

#178; the day has come

This time tomorrow, I’ll be in Boston. I’m sure the reality of this will settle in after 16+ hours on the highway, as my parents and I are moving my boxes and furniture into my new basement at 2am, in the slush, in the cold. By the way – massive shout out to Mom and Daddy Limbo, who are taking the weekend off to drive with me up the east coast, this is epically awesome of them.

I spent today lying in the sun on Myrtle Beach in a very little bikini. I can’t believe tomorrow is finally The Big Day.

#177; the open road

Waking up at 6:30 in the morning is much easier when one has something to be excited about. It’s sort of like the grown up version of Christmas morning. And so, this morning, I was up and at ‘em without so much as an espresso shot or can or Dr. Pepper. Packing up the 2 cars and 1 pick-up truck (courtesy of Tier, my own vehicle, and my girlfriend’s boyfriend letting her have his truck for the long weekend) took nary an hour and we were on the road after saying goodbye to the place I’ve called home for the last ten months. With the exception of gassing up once in North Carolina, we didn’t even stop for lunch (Red Bull does not count as lunch).

So, for the next two days, I’m chilling on a beach with my nearest and dearest. And a two-year-old (the girlfriend’s son). This life is kind of amazing, have you noticed?
